Electron Microscopy of low dimensional materials: from 0D to 2D semiconductors

The rapid improvement in semiconductor growth and processing techniques has produced novel materials with unique functionalities. Electron microscopy plays a key role in understanding the structure of these. Three different case studies on low dimensional materials will be presented: the degradation of quantum dot semiconductor lasers (0D); the efficiency of GaAsP nanowires as photocathodes (1D); and lateral heterojunctions within monolayer semiconductors (2D).
