The telescope iluminated at night Welcome to the homepage of the Dame Kathleen Ollerenshaw Observatory. The observatory is situated on the roof of the Lancaster University Physics Department, a department with an outstanding reputation for both teaching and research (the top Physics Department in RAE2008). The observatory is dedicated to the teaching of observational astronomy to undergraduate students as part of our MPhys degree scheme in Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology.

The observatory is named after Dame Kathleen in recognition of her support of the facility. In 2006, Dame Kathleen also donated a University prize to be awarded to the best MPhys project, including the report, carried out by a fourth year undergraduate in the observatory.
