How properties of matter can be simply understood using helium

Experiments on quantum fluids and solids performed using neutron scattering techniques at very low temperatures are at the origin of our present understanding of strongly interacting many-particle systems, for instance insulators, metals, neutron stars and so on.

In this talk Henri Godfrin will describe simple results obtained on helium-4 and helium-3, showing how they led to the determination of the quantum ground state and the elementary excitations of quantum matter, and their importance for the development of quantum many-body theory.
