Dr Lawrence Sheppard

I am a third year PhD student applying wavelet transform analysis and other signal processing techniques to biological signals, to learn more about time-varying physiological processes. I study the variability of blood flow under the skin and its association with variable skin temperature, and the relationship between skin blood flow and the central cardiovascular system (the heart, lungs and systemic blood pressure). The same data processing and statistical methods can be applied to recordings of intracranial pressure from patients who have suffered a head injury, and we aim to improve monitoring techniques to detect the breakdown of cerebral autoregulation, which can result in ischaemia if untreated ...more
