Finite-volume Poisson solver

Finite Volume numerical Poisson solver (FVPS) was developed by Igor Kaufman for calculations of electrostatic potentials, currents and forces in ionic channels modeling. The solver particularly accepts severe jumps in dielectric permittivity between water and protein. Software library implements a numerical solution of the boundary-value problem for Poisson equation with mixed boundary conditions for 1D, Cartesian 2D, and axis-symmetrical cylindrical coordinates, as well as full-3D Cartesian solver. The solver uses Finite Volume Method and staggered rectangular grid for discretization of PDE and iterative methods (PSOR, LSOR, and ADI) for solving sparse linear system appearing from discrete PDE. Matlab MEX-functions are implemented to run solvers from Matlab programs. Image forces and self-potential barriers are calculated for the single axial charge in axis-symmetrical ionic channel model with different channel parameters. The Solver has been successfully used in our ion channels research since 2004.
