PhD Research Opportunities
Postgraduate research in the ULT group provides you with an opportunity to take part in world-class research and to investigate problems which cannot be studied anywhere else in the world. The group has a high international reputation for performing novel experiments on superfluid 3He at the lowest accessible temperatures. We are world leaders in techniques for achieving very low temperatures, both in quantum fluids and metallic samples, and have held and hold several world low temperature records. The group has excellent facilities and technical support. You will receive comprehensive training in a modern research environment.
The group welcomes enquiries from interested students. Contact any member of the group for further information, see the contacts page.
Support is available for PhD studies for suitably qualified students through the Department and through dedicated studentships awarded on EPSRC research grants. Some of the funding is restricted to EU nationals.
Information on other studentships and bursaries can be found on the Lancaster University Graduate Admissions page.
The minimum entry requirement for PhD registration is an upper-second honours degree (or equivalent) in Physics or other relevant subject. Initial registration is for an MPhil which, subject to satisfactory progress, is upgraded to PhD registration at the end of the first year.
