I joined the Physics department on the 10th October 1966 based at St Leonardsgate in Lancaster for two years until the new buildings were completed on the new site at Bailrigg.
I worked in the Physics workshops for 25 years before moving into the liquefier room for 3 years to run and maintain the helium and nitrogen liquefiers, compressors and associated equipment.
I have now returned to the workshops and am responsible to the chief technician for contstructing precision items and components for use in both teaching and research. I also assist the in-house design of major constructions.
Further responsibilities include: the maintenance of the research workshop (used by staff and students); giving the yearly workshop safety course for the new graduate students; membership of the M.S.F. Health and Safety Committee and; a representative of the M.S.F. safety team.
