Spectrum of Sirius

Spectrum of Sirius
Comments: Spectrum of bright star Sirius, Alpha-Canis Major. Compare the relative shape of this this hot star's spectrum with that of the much cooler Betelgeuse. This is taken using a simple webcam, no IR/UV filter and a Paton Hawksley star analyser mounted on the webcam 1.25 inch adaptor. This gives an image of the star [on the left) and its spectrum. The video is stacked using Registax and then converted to b/w and the intensity determined and plotted on the graph. Several absorption lines can be seen - some due to the Earth's atmosphere.
Equipment: Meade 8 inch LX200R, Philips Toucam Pro, Paton Hawksley star analyser
Observer: Ian Bradley
