Space Science Seminar: Why do space policy and law matter?

Professor David Southwood, Imperial College London.

Frankland Colloquium Room

Have you ever worried about why planes can't overfly other nations but no one queries that spacecraft can? Who is responsible if your spacecraft bumps into another? Why can't you use GPS to land an airliner? Are you allowed to collect an asteroid and bring it to the Earth? We'll explore some of the myriad ways in which the global use of space tests humanity's capacity to agree and cooperate out on the final frontier.
