HEP Seminar: Long-Baseline Neutrino Experiment (LBNE): Physics Reach and Status

With the discovery of neutrino oscillations, it has been established that neutrinos have mass and they mix.

In this talk, after introducing the basics of neutrinos, I will briefly discuss the formalism of neutrino oscillation, the current status of neutrino physics, and then proceed to discuss in detail the physics reach and present status of the LBNE experiment. The planned LBNE project at Fermilab in USA is one of the most ambitious long-baseline neutrino experiments in the world which aims to disentangle the neutrino mass-hierarchy, establish CP violation in the neutrino sector, measure the CP phase, and also measure the neutrino mixing parameters to a very high precision. I will also discuss the experimental challenges associated with such an experiment.
